Most Web Hosting companies configure WordPress so that it automatically updates whenever you click on upgrade WordPress or WordPress plugins. Some web hosting companies have this feature turned off. If you have an VPS Hosting or Dedicated Server, ask them to install suPHP, if not you can add the following codes to your config.php file so WordPress automatically remember your FTP login and password.

define("FTP_HOST", "mywebsite.com");
define("FTP_USER", "username");
define("FTP_PASS", "mypassword");

For VPS Hosting, we recommend WiredTree, ServInt and Future Hosting
For Shared Hosting, we recommend HostGator

Make your WordPress theme translatable

Using the power of .po files and this short code snippets, you can make your WordPress theme available in a wide variety of languages. This code have to be pasted in your functions.php file. The .po files should be located under your wp-content/themes/your-theme-name/languages directory.

Well this time, I found a tutorial that will make your WordPress blog automatically generate tr.im url’s for your blog posts.

First to do this, add the following lines to your functions.php file:

function getTrimUrl($url) {
  $tinyurl = file_get_contents("http://api.tr.im/api/trim_simple?url=".$url);
  return $tinyurl;
}

Now, copy and paste the following code in your single.php file anywhere inside the loop:

<?php
$turl = getTrimUrl(get_permalink($post->ID));
echo 'Short Url for this post: <a href="'.$turl.'">'.$turl.'</a>'
?>

There you go! Your WordPress blog will now automatically generate tr.im URL’s.

You can futher format the date, but that seems like a little too much for me to get into. You can check out further documentation on that at the official php website.

Well, here’s some simple code you can use to have that show on all of your posts.

To first create the function for the task that we are going to do, copy and paste the following code into your theme’s functions.php file:

if (!function_exists('get_the_modified_author')) {
  function get_the_modified_author() {
    global $post;
    if ( $last_id = get_post_meta($post->ID, '_edit_last', true) ) {
      $last_user = get_userdata($last_id);
      return apply_filters('the_modified_author', $last_user->display_name);
    }
  }
}

if (!function_exists('the_modified_author')) {
  function the_modified_author() {
    echo get_the_modified_author();
  }
}

If you know what all of that mumbo-jumbo (php) means, then you should know that it’s as simple as pasting:

<?php the_modified_author(); ?>

anywhere you want for the modified author of any given post. Just make sure that you put that code within you’re WordPress theme’s loop somewhere.

What does this mean? That you can modify your current WordPress theme’s functions.php file, and with the copying and pasting of a little code, you now have the ability for text to be shown at the bottom of your post, however much you want (with xhtml if you want), without actually putting it in the post editor.

Make note though, this text will show on all of the posts that you make after you modify the theme file, so it will not show up on any of your past posts that you have made.

How do you accomplish this hack? Well, open up your theme’s functions.php file, and copy and paste the following code:

<?php
add_filter( 'default_content', 'my_editor_content' );
function my_editor_content( $content ) {
	$content = "This is some custom content I'm adding to the post editor because I hate re-typing it.";
	return $content;
}
?>

After doing that, you can change the text to whatever you want, and if you want to, can edit it with some xhtml-markup. And that’s it!
